About

I’ve been working at the intersection of writing and design for over a decade. I believe a cohesive strategy, user-centered perspective, and meaningful content is what holds a project together.

I value collaboration in the workplace and a multidisciplinary approach to creative work. I’m a curious person—some might say “nerd”—and when I’m not working as a writer and content specialist, I’m either running my personal art business, reading about the natural world, doomscrolling through political news, or watching any number of sci-fi TV shows of varying quality.

Leading communications and content strategy

Schema Design

Before joining Cognition Studio, where I’m currently a Senior Content Designer and Strategist, I worked at Schema Design as their Communications Manager. At Schema, I split time between leading and managing the firm’s communications and working with clients on content for digital projects. I worked with corporate, public sector, NGO, and academic clients throughout the design process as a content strategist and writer for data-driven websites and more. Clients I worked with included the City of Santa Monica, PEFA (World Bank), Engie Impact (digital team), Stony Brook University, and the Google News Initiative. I also helped evolve the firm’s design approach with new content strategy tools and developed a project postmortem process.

Editing stories about design

ARCADE Magazine

For over a decade, I worked at ARCADE, a Seattle-based nonprofit magazine dedicated to exploring design from a critical and cultural perspective. As the managing editor, I worked with a range of writers including design leaders, academics, and journalists to help develop and polish their stories. I also worked with the editor/executive director, board, and volunteer committees to evolve the organization’s strategy and programming beyond its print magazine to include new digital publishing and increase ARCADE’s impact.

Designing for print and web

RMB Vivid

I have a degree in graphic design, and I worked at RMB Vivid designing print and digital projects. After working as a visual designer, I realized that I wanted to be able to tell stories across media, and I had a passion for designing with words and content in addition to imagery. The design-thinking I gained from studying and working as a visual designer, particularly on websites, is integral to my approach to writing, and it underpins my ability to work effectively on design teams to create great projects.
